Starting today, I’d love to share something truly personal with you — the story of our own wedding journey. From the proposal to the first steps of planning, the ups and downs, the big day itself, and finally, a little reflection at the end.
And where does every love story begin? With the proposal. 💖
Everything I’m about to share with you, I only found out afterwards — because I had absolutely no idea at the time. But first, you should know something about me: I’m a person who values tradition deeply. Maybe it’s a little old-fashioned, but that’s what makes it all the more touching — and you’ll soon understand why. My fiancé knew exactly how important that was to me and planned something truly special.
So, get ready for the story. 😊
The Vacation Plan
In February 2020, my fiancé and I had a week off — which also happened to include our fifth anniversary. Of course, we wanted to take a trip, but it wasn’t that easy because I had only just gotten my cast removed from my foot two weeks before.
Back in January, I was already brainstorming where we could go when my fiancé said, “Don’t worry, I’ve got something planned for us.”So, I let it go — and waited.
When our vacation week arrived, I still had no idea what was going on. By Wednesday, I was getting a little impatient. While we were having lunch, he casually mentioned that we needed to pack our bags — we’d be leaving the next morning! That was when the excitement kicked in — even though I still didn’t know where we were going.
That evening, I packed two types of outfits:
- something warm for a city trip, and
- something really warm — just in case we were heading to the mountains.
When I asked which to bring, he said, “Warm clothes and something elegant.” So I figured we were off to a city — and I had a feeling it might be Dresden, our favourite place.
The next morning, we set off early. He drove east and asked if I could guess our destination. I smiled — I knew it. We were going to Dresden.
When we arrived, he surprised me with a stay at the beautifulHotel Suitessa 5-star hotel I can only recommend! We spent that Thursday taking it slow, enjoying our city.
The Proposal
Friday was our fifth anniversary — and the day he had planned everything for. We got up early for a lovely champagne breakfast at 8:30, and after that, spent a few hours at the zoo, one of our favourite places.
At lunchtime, we headed back into the city, where he surprised me with our next stop — a relaxing aromatherapy massage.
Afterwards, we walked through the winter market, sipping mulled wine and enjoying the festive atmosphere.
Then it was time to get ready for dinner at our favourite restaurant. Still, he told me it wasn’t yet time for the “elegant outfit” I had packed. At that point, I started wondering — was I wrong to hope for a proposal?
After dinner, we took a walk through the beautifully lit city. When we reached the square in front of the Frauenkirche, he suddenly stopped, turned to me… and knelt down.💍 The moment of all moments.He asked me to marry him — and everything else around us disappeared. It was just the two of us, in our own little world.
He slipped the ring onto my finger, and — it fit perfectly.
Afterwards, we changed into our “elegant outfits” and went to the hotel bar, which had a stunning view of the Frauenkirche. There, over a glass of champagne, he told me everything he had planned in secret.
Tradition
As I mentioned before, I care deeply about tradition — and he did everything exactly right. Back in November 2019, he had gone to my parents’ home with flowers and a bottle of champagne to ask for my hand. He even went ring shopping with my mom, bringing along one of my rings and using her hand for the size — since we wear the same size!Only our parents knew what was happening, because he didn’t want anyone to accidentally spoil the surprise. 😊
From asking my parents’ permission to choosing the perfect ring, planning a beautiful weekend in Dresden, and creating an unforgettable fifth anniversary — he truly thought of everything. What a proposal. 💕 😊
